Brownwood Intermediate School principal, Charles Chesser, and Coggin Elementary School principal, Todd Lewis, have accepted the BOOK IT!® challenge to read from “bell to bell” to get students fired up for reading.

Lewis completed his challenge Wednesday, Novemeber 12th, and was spotted reading in several places throughout Coggin Elementary.

Chesser set up his reading “camp” in the hall of Brownwood Intermediate School on Thursday, November 13th.  The site, complete with a tent and simulated campfire, was home for Chesser throughout the day as he read to himself and varying groups of students.

More details regarding the challenge from BOOK IT! are listed below:

In recognition of National Young Readers Week Nov. 10-14, Pizza Hut® and its BOOK IT!® Program will continue its tradition of challenging principals across the United States to become shining examples for literacy and the BOOK IT! Program by choosing one day to read all day long, from first bell to last during National Young Readers Week in fun, unique and engaging ways.

The Principal Challenge is part of Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program’s National Young Readers Week celebration November 10-14 that is an annual event co-founded by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.  One lucky elementary school principal will win 101 copies for their library of the ninth book in the Wimpy Kid series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul which releases on November 4th.   Jeff Kinney, author of the Wimpy Kid books, will personally autograph one of the books for the principal who read their heart out.
