bencox2Life isn’t always a beach.  Sometimes there are other words that best describe it!

There were quite a few disappointed people this past weekend. Football fans, mostly.

What do we do with disappointment? That gut wrenching feeling that your best just isn’t good enough.

Disappointment appears in many guises, sports, business, relationships, and so forth.

We have all had our dealings with it, that’s simple because we exist. Not everyone can win all the time.

And if we could, would you want to? Would your struggle have meaning?

Would that sense of satisfaction be as sweet were it not for overcoming a personal setback that inspired you to try even harder?

Probably not. As many have learned it is the journey that’s the best part. The boot strap grabbing, beating taking, mistake inspired learning that makes our time on this planet just that much sweeter and richer.

With as many football teams that were predicted to win taking their lumps this weekend, I can imagine what locker rooms across the country sound like today. Some are preaching on perseverance, while others are celebrating hard work playing off.

Both are notable, because with out one, you almost always cannot have the other.

As a father, I have learned that letting my child go out and experience life and her surroundings by herself can lead to Neosporin and a Band-Aid, but along with those remedies come stories that light up her eyes, and laughter that lights up mine.

Set backs, disappointment, failure, and the like are learning opportunities that should be embraced, and cherished. Simply for the reason that without their impetus, we would not have an occasion to rise to next time.
