Auditions for Brownwood’s Got Talent saw about two dozen hopefuls converge on Heartland Mall Saturday morning. By the end of the day, that number was cut in half and the top 12 were named.

The top 12 are TYME (Two Young Men Entertaining), comprised of the 2013 winner Zakary Webb and Marlon Hamilton (pictured at top), Kyla Duncan, Cameron Seale, Wayne Harris, All DatSnazz, Aaron Tassin, Jeanice Padilla, Cody Sellers, Samantha Bush Kerner, Destanie Rawls, Sid Perkins and Kellee Greenwood.

Greenwood, a 21-year-old junior at Howard Payne University is the only finalist who did not present a musical piece. Instead, for the second consecutive year, she offered the judges a taste of “slam poetry.” “I think I enjoy (slam poetry) because it is different and it is something I like to share with people,” Greenwood said. “It can be encouraging and motivating and because there are no venues in Brownwood for me to do it-when something like Brownwood’s Got Talent happens, it gives me a chance to share.”

Greenwood found support in her grandfather, Wayne Harris, 62, who also made the top 12 after performing Elvis Presley’s 1957 hit, (Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear. “I thought this song would be exciting to perform and it was fun.”

Sid Perkins, 82, who proved to be a crowd favorite, also made the final cut. “I have been singing and calling square dances for almost 50 years,” Perkins said. “A bunch of people said I should try out, so I did.”

The event kicked off with WWII veteran Bob Hickey leading the crowd in the pledge of allegiance and reciting a poem.

Now that the top 12 have been determined, videos of each performance will be uploaded to

War veteran Bob Hickey kicked off the 2014 Brownwood’s Got Talent auditions by leading those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance and also offered a poem.
