Organizers for the Brownwood Reunion Celebration are asking the community to remember Jimi Jamison, lead singer for the rock band Survivor, who passed away from a heart attack this weekend.

News reports state that Jamison was found at his home in Memphis, Tennessee by his son around 1 a.m. Monday.

Family attorney Jeff Ward made a statement to WMC-TV in Tennessee that the family has asked for privacy during this extremely difficult time. In lieu of any demonstrations of sympathy, the family has requested that donations be made to Jimi’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Survivor is the scheduled headlining act for the Friday night concert of the Brownwood Reunion Celebration on Friday, September 19th.   The event’s Executive Director Kim Peterson said that organizers will make an announcement soon regarding the impact this may have on the celebration.

“Out of respect for the family of Jimi Jamison, we kindly ask that you refrain from speculating about how this tragedy will impact the Brownwood Reunion Celebration,” Peterson said.  “When the time is right, we will release additional information.  Until then, please join us in praying for friends and family of Mr. Jamison.”

Jamison joined the band Survivor in 1984 and is known for many popular songs of the time. The band reunited in recent years and was currently on tour.
