Brownwood City Council recently proclaimed September as Recovery Month in the City of Brownwood.  Mayor Stephen Haynes presented a proclamation to representatives of the Center for Life Resources which explained the importance of becoming more aware and being able to recognize the signs of mental and/or substance use disorders.

This proclamation stated that preventing and overcoming mental and/or substance use disorders is essential to achieving healthy lifestyles, both physically and emotionally.  It also stated the importance of encouraging relatives and friends of people with mental and/or substance use disorders to implement preventative measures, recognize the signs of a problem and guide those in need to appropriate treatment and recovery support services.

Haynes encouraged all citizens “to spread the message that behavioral health is an essential part of health and one’s overall wellness, and that prevention works, treatment is effective and people recover.

Dion White of the Center for Life Resources reminded those in attendance of an upcoming event, the Recovery Walk, which is being held in honor of National Recovery Month.  The Center for Life Resources and Winner’s Circle Support Group will host their third annual Recovery Walk on September 6th at Coggin Park.  The event will begin with a meet and greet time at 8:00 a.m. and the walk will begin about 9:15 a.m.  There will also be hotdogs for those in attendance.

The walk celebrates people fighting substance abuse and the fact that, “Recovery is possible.”  There will also be talks regarding mental health and personal recovery stories.   The public is invited to join in the celebration and walk.

For more information contact the Center for Life Resources at 325-646-9547.
