smith_dorisDoris Jean Smith, 85, of Bangs passed away on August 22, 2014.

Visitation for Mrs. Smith will be Sunday, August 24, 2014, from 7pm to 9pm at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Funeral service for Mrs. Smith will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014, 10:00 AM at Bangs Church of Christ.

Doris Jean Ayers Smith passed peacefully from this life Friday, August 22, 2014.

Doris Jean Ayers was born Feb. 20, 1929 to Lee and Evelyn Ayers in Moran TX. She graduated from Moran High School in 1946.

On her 19th birthday she married Willard Parks Smith, also from Moran, and became Doris Jean Smith. Together, they raised 6 children: Willard Glen, Deborah Francis, James Lee, Charles Alan, Travis B. and Lisa Ann.

For the first 18 years the family lived in a variety of locations in Texas until finally settling in Bangs in 1966. She opened a Child Care Center in 1974 and ran the business for many years. After closing the business, she continued to care for children in her home until she was almost 80.

Her true passion in life was serving the Lord and working in His Kingdom. She taught Sunday School, VBS, cleaned the church building on a weekly basis for nearly 40 years and could be found cooking for every church function.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willard Smith; her parents, Lee and Evelyn Ayers; half-sisters, Bealah Hatzenbwah, and Johnnie Conger; half-brother, L.B. (Judd) Ayers; sister, Laverne Day; brothers, Lee (Butch) Ayers and Bobby Ayers; Sons, Willard Glen Smith and James Lee Smith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Deborah Martin and husband Willard; sons, Charles Smith, Travis Smith and wife Gayla; daughter, Lisa Thomason and husband Terry; sister, Faye Adams; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bangs Church of Christ camp fund.
