UnitedLogoUnited Supermarkets will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, July 28th at 8:30 AM at 300 W. Commerce for their future location in Brownwood.

Representatives from United Supermarkets will be on hand to discuss their brand, the scope of the project and their timeline for completion.

Community leaders from the City of Brownwood, Brownwood Economic Development Corporation and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will also speak during the event.

An incentive agreement (approved by the City of Brownwood in January) between the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation and United outlines a 40,000 square feet or better store which is hoped to be completed sometime in 2015, earlier than the BEDC incentive required completion date of June 1, 2016.  The store will offer 140-150 jobs of which 25% will be full time positions with benefits.  These jobs will bring $3,600,000 in annual gross salaries during the first three years according to the agreement.

The store is expected to produce $19.5 million in annual sales of which 25% are taxable.

United officials have stated that this new store will be a new and expanded comparison to the current Brownwood grocery stores, having high quality fresh produce, a butcher on hand to make specialty cuts for customers, a bakery with some made-from-scratch items and a prepared foods section.

United Supermarkets is headquartered in Lubbock, Texas and has 51 stores in 30 Texas cities and over 10,000 workers.    On September 9, 2013, United Supermarkets LLC was sold to Albertsons LLC but will still be operated under the United name.
