Brownwood Economic Development Corporation recently commissioned a promotional video featuring the Brownwood area and showed it to those attending the Brownwood City Council meeting Tuesday morning.

BEDC Executive Director Emily Crawford stated that the video was made in an effort to better tell the story of what Brownwood has to offer.

“Our goal was to be able to tell the story of Brownwood to those who are looking at us online,” said Crawford.

Crawford explained that even without any planned promotion, the video has been well received.

“The video has been up for less than two weeks with no promotion and has been seen 2237 times,” she said.  “It’s already getting a lot of use.”

Crawford stated that the BEDC has been sending letters to their partners so that they can use the video in their recruitment efforts.

“We have shared with local employers, universities, the chamber of commerce and others.”

BEDC invites the public to continue sharing the video, shown below, and promoting the benefits Brownwood has to offer businesses and families.

In other matters on Tuesday’s Brownwood City Council agenda:

*Council approved an ordinance on second and third/final readings changing the zoning classification of 10.87 acres being the East End Addition, Block 2, Part of Lots 1 and 2, located at 900 Goodwin Street from R1 Single Family Residential District to A1 Agricultural District.

*Council approved an ordinance on second and third/final readings officially naming the new street between Market Place Boulevard and Riverside Park Drive as “Market Street.”

*Council approved an ordinance on second and third/final readings establishing a stop sign for southbound traffic on Mustang Drive at Milam Drive and stop sign for northbound traffic on Mustang Drive at Golding Road.

*City Manager Bobby Rountree reported that the contractor at the new soccer fields is working on installing the storm sewer and site grading will be completed after that.  Bids for the concession stands will be taken later this month according to Rountree.  It is hoped that work on these will begin in October.  Rountree stated that these concession stands will be much larger than the ones at the Bert Massey Sports Complex for better food storage and work space.  Local soccer associations were consulted in planning the concession stands as well as the fields in the complex.

*Rountree reported that the new Fire Station is coming along nicely and substantial completion is expected by the contractor, Waldrop Construction, by the end of August.  Final completion will take another 2-4 weeks after that, said Rountree.  An open house, dedication and installation of the Masonic cornerstone is planned tentatively for the end of September according to Rountree, who gave kudos to the Waldrop construction crew and the city’s staff who have worked on the planning and construction of the station.

*Rountree reported that the United Supermarket will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on July 28th.
