WeCanBeHeroes2014A canned food drive is being held by Brown County Relay for Life supporters and volunteers with a goal of 1000 cans by the opening day of the Relay for Life event, which is this Friday, June 6 from 7 PM-7AM at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood.  This year’s theme is “We Can Be Heroes.”

According to Relay for Life Chairperson Tammy Robinson, the drive is more than halfway to their goal and the public is asked to help.

Wednesday, volunteers are collecting cans at Doc’s Drugstore in Brownwood until 1:30 p.m.  With a donation of a canned good, donors get a free sample of a milkshake.  Free blood pressure checks are also being offered during this time.

KOXE radio is also helping challenge the public to give to the food drive.  Donors of 10 cans or more get a KOXE t-shirt.  Donors of 20 cans get complementary tickets to Billy Bob’s.  Donations for these prizes may be dropped by the KOXE studio until noon on Friday.

For those wanting to volunteer at the Relay, Robinson stated that there is a need for volunteers to help with the luminary area.  Simply report to the registration area at the Brown County Relay for Life event at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood Friday evening to volunteer.

For questions or more information, please contact Rick Phelps at 325-200-1276.
