A party was held Sunday, June 1 in honor of Rising Star resident Delia Bonner who celebrated her 100th birthday.  Her younger sister Lucille (who is only 97) was also at the party.

Those in attendance heard many stories about the experiences Mrs. Bonner had and the times she lived through and witnessed. Old photographs verified a lot of facts in her life. When asked what advise she would give others (as to what contributed to her longevity), she replied, “Vinegar!  We always had a lot of food prepared with vinegar, including vinegar cobbler.” She could still recite the recipe.

Most people in Rising Star and surrounding towns know or have met Mrs. Bonner and are always amazed that she still lives independently. She attends dances weekly and stated she likes “the fast ones,” referring to the music.

Her son Howard Walker had asked her when she turned 95, what she planned to do if she made it to 100. She stated she’d dance on a table, which she did (with her grandson Jim Walker), to the cheers and applause of her friends and family. Nearly everyone in attendance voiced that they

hope they are able to enjoy life (in good health) as well as Mrs. Bonner.

Pictured above are Mrs. Bonner (standing) with her sister Lucille (sitting).
