Sammie Perrie

Sammie Perrie, age 90, of Coleman, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Coleman County Medical Center.  Graveside funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, at the Coleman Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Don Harmes officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

Sammie Perrie was born May 24, 1924 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, a son of Carl Perrie and Lula Ethel Tinsley Perrie.  He moved with his family to Coleman as a child.  He was employed by the Coleman Flying School from February 1942 to February 1943.  He served in the United States Army from February 1943 to February 1946.   Following his service to his country, he returned to Coleman.   He married Betty Lois Curry Shields on October 29, 1955 in San Angelo.  He purchased Frank Lewis Furniture in the 1960’s and changed the name to Perrie’s Furniture and Floor Covering.  He was a Baptist.

Sammie Perrie is survived by one son, Billy Perrie of Burkett; two step-sons, Ricky Shields of Snyder and Larry Shields of Early; eight grandchildren:  Melanie, Carl, Mindy, Marty, Cody, Jason, Randy and Terra; 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Carl Perrie; two brothers, Louie and Petie Perrie; one sister, Ida Mae Perrie.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
