NorthEntranceGateThe Brown County Historical Commission will dedicate a Texas historical maker Friday, May 30th 10:30 a.m. at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas.

The marker is about Charlie Webb who served as a Texas Ranger and John Wesley Hardin, the man who shot and killed him.

A Texas Ranger memorial cross will be placed at the grave of Charlie Webb by the former Texas Rangers’ Association and the public is invited to attend.

As a Texas Ranger, Charlie Webb had many duties, one of which was chasing outlaws to make the area more crime free.  In 1874, serving as a Texas Ranger wasn’t a full time position and the men got called back into duty for service as needed.

When Webb was in between stints as a Texas Ranger, he was serving as a Brown County deputy.  He was tracking John Wesley Harden when the gunfight occurred in Comanche County where John Wesley Hardin shot and killed Charlie Webb.  John Wesley Hardin was later tried and sent to prison for this shooting.
