LittleLionsOlympics_LogoThe third-annual Little Lion Olympics are headed to Gordon Wood Stadium next week.  The games, which now include Brownwood ISD 3rd grade classes, promote healthy athletic competition and Olympic-style events for students from 3rd to 5th grade.  The event will be held Tuesday, May 27th for 3rd grade and Wednesday, May 28th for 4th and 5th grade, with the Opening Ceremonies held at 9:00 a.m. each day.

Students from five campuses (Woodland Heights Elementary, East Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Coggin Elementary and Brownwood Intermediate School) will participate in the games each day that begin with students entering the field carrying custom-made flags before they take part in the National Anthem, the reading of the Olympic Oath, witness the lighting of the torch, and a release of doves, before beginning the various competitions.

The Little Lion Olympics was formed from collaborative ideas generated from the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). “The event has gotten better and better each year,” said Stefenia Phipps, Intermediate P.E. Teacher, coach, and Little Lion Olympics coordinator.  “This year we’ve added third-grade and made some other improvements to help with the flow of events.”

Phipps noted that the support of teachers, staff, and the community have helped to make the Little Lion Olympics a success. The top sponsors for the Little Lion Olympics include Pepsico, Runaway Train, Guardian EMS, Doc’s Drugstore, the Oines Family, and Shane Britton, Attorney at Law. The list of top sponsors is also available online at
