BISD Adjusts Elementary Attendance Zones for Northwest and Woodland Heights

bisdlogo4The Brownwood ISD school board unanimously approved adjusting elementary attendance zones for Woodland Heights Elementary and Northwest Elementary at Monday’s school board meeting.

With that vote, the Northwest Elementary attendance zone has been expanded along the west side of Highway 377 in South Brownwood.  Homes along Chapel Hill Road, the 377 Villa Apartments and the Westridge Addition will all now be designated as Northwest Elementary.

District officials said that the readjustment would ease overcrowding at Woodland Heights and redirect future enrollment to Northwest Elementary.

Brownwood ISD Superintendent Reece Blincoe said that the change would affect approximately 29 students who currently go to Woodland Heights.  Students currently enrolled in Woodland Heights could continue to stay at the school as long as the parents provided transportation.

Blincoe said that the change would also help the district avoid building on an addition to Woodland Heights Elementary, at least in the short term.

“We think this buys us some relief,” stated Blincoe.

He also said that Northwest Elementary offers plenty of space for students in the expanded attendance zone and anticipates more growth with an addition to the 377 Village Apartments.

In other items addressed at Monday’s school board meeting:

* The school board approved extension of an agreement with All Aboard Transportation Services. The new agreement is for a five-year term.

* The school board approved various changes to the TASB initiated localized policy manual.

* The school board discussed and reviewed district goals and board operating procedures.  The board looks to discuss these in-depth in a July special meeting of the board.
