CarmenGoldthwaiteFt. Worth author Carmen Goldthwaite (pictured) is coming to Brownwood, presenting a program of true stories that inspired her book, “Texas Dames—Sassy and Savvy Women Through Lone Star History.”

One of the notable women highlighted in the book is Dr. Mollie Armstrong, who practiced in Brownwood.  She was an amazing woman ahead of her time–the first woman optometrist in Texas– who pushed for legislation in her field and helped thousands save their vision.

The Brown County Museum of History will host this special event at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14th at 209 North Broadway (across from the Old Jail). Valet parking will be provided.

A $10 donation/admission is requested, with proceeds benefiting the Museum of History. Admission includes all exhibits at the Museum, including a special display on Dr. Armstrong’s life, and a collection of dresses and hats from the 1920’s.

Dr. Jay Vollet, Dr. Armstrong’s great-grandson, will be coming to Brownwood to attend this event.  For group rates or more information, please call Beverly Norris at

325-647-7879.
