Off Mic With Ben Cox: I’d say I need help, but I really don’t want it!

bencox2I have an obsession, and I am managing to keep it from taking over my whole world.

Every Monday, on my lunch break, I go home, make something quick to eat, and watch the recording of the previous nights Game of Thrones.

Some people I know have to watch it the very night it comes on, and will stay up way too late in the evening to get their viewing in.

I can at least say that I can wait till Monday. But no later than lunchtime. Seriously, I’m not a sadist! Why would I torture myself like that? Waiting just to wait. Ridiculous.

It started when a friend lent me a box set of season one. I ran through that sucker so fast, I could hardly tell you what happened.

But I knew this: I had to have more.

He luckily had season 2 and lent it to me, chuckling that “hadn’t I just borrowed season 1?” with a knowing look in his eye as I stumbled back to my car, clutching the precious collection in my hands.

I made it through the 2nd season almost as quick, taking just a little time to be sure I understood all the different plot points, and to mourn the loss of characters I had come to love.

This would prove good practice, as any GoT fan will tell you!

As I neared the end of season 2, season 3 was just starting on HBO, so what do I do? I subscribe to the pay movie channel to watch their show. (Come to think of it, was my “friend” getting kickbacks from the Home Box Office?)

Season 3 started in all its glory, but I realized, I would have to wait now for new episodes instead of popping in a new DVD. The tempering had begun. I had to learn to wait for what I needed.

I once tried to explain the show to someone who had never seen it. I sounded like the biggest Dungeons and Dragons fan I had ever heard. I was officially “That Guy”, but I really didn’t care!

We are into the 4th season now, with a well celebrated death already tucked into our belts, and many more to come I’m sure.

Gotta go. It’s time for lunch, and I can’t be late!
