Valinda Lea Lake

LakeValinda Lea Lake, 50 of Brownwood, passed suddenly from this life on April 20, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.

Valinda was born to Robert “Bob” Lake and June Cowan Gresham on September 17, 1963, in Sweetwater, Texas. She was a homemaker who dedicated her entire life to her three sons. She was married to Mark Phelps on August 30, 2009.

Anyone who knew her would be quick to acknowledge her loving and giving nature. Although she spent the last few years ill and weakened in body, she always put the needs of others before herself. She would be quick to point out the sustaining power of her mother’s prayers. Her whole existence revolved around her family.

Survivors include her mother, June Gresham and step-father, Leroy Gresham; husband Mark Phelps; children, Les and Karen Karnes of Bangs, Cliff and Shauna Karnes of Early, Levi Karnes and Joan Burks of Brownwood; three grandchildren who were the joy of her life, Trey, Kylea, and Jackson Karnes; brothers, Roger and Karla Gresham of Anson, Ray and Debbie Gresham of Hawley, Robert and Pam Lake of Lake Brownwood, Ronald and Anita Gresham of Brownwood, and H.S. and Vicky Gresham of Brownwood; sisters, Cindy and Eddie Miller of New Boston, and Dee and Kenneth Andrews of East Tawakoni; nieces, Tory Gresham and Paysen; nephew, Calab Gresham and numerous other nieces and nephews; special aunts, AldaDeaver and TressaFinnigan of Brownwood; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Bob Lake, and dad Herb Gresham; sister, Jeanie Shaw; and nephew, Cory Gresham.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Brownwood Evangelism Center. Interment will follow at Blanket Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Heartland Funeral Home.
