Longtime Brown County Water Improvement District board of directors Stuart Coleman and Mark Campbell were honored with a reception with friends, family, BCWID staff and directors at the BCWID office Thursday afternoon. The room was packed with well wishers for both men.
When asked what the highlight of his service on the board of directors has been, Campbell stated that he enjoyed serving with other well-respected board members.
“There’s no doubt it was working with the other directors, guys like Stuart, Jay Timmins, and Ted, for quite a long time. It’s quite an honor,” said Campbell. “It’s an honor working with the new guys on the board as well, no doubt.”
Campbell served more than 13 years on the board and chose not to file for re-election this year.
“It’s gone by fast and has been a lot of fun. It’s been busy, we got a lot accomplished but still have a lot to do,” said Campbell. “So I’m encouraging the guys to keep their heads down and keep working.”
Campbell stated that he really didn’t have one particular reason to step down, but that there were several things that influenced his decision.
“Family and business primarily, it’s time to try something else,” said Campbell. He explained further, “There’s really no particular reason. It’s time to get some new blood in.” He joked, “Maybe if I leave, it will rain.”
Stuart Coleman has been a long-standing figure in Texas water conservation and management agencies, having served more than 50 years on boards of various agencies.
Coleman was enjoying the reception, and when asked about his service, stated, “It’s a good thing, it’s been 50 years.”
When Coleman gave his written resignation to the BCWID board of directors in November 2013, General Manager Dennis Spinks stated, “He spent 40 years on the board, not only was he on the board of directors for Brown County Water District, he was on the Region F Planning board, he was on the state water board, he has been involved in water forever.”
Coleman served 40 years on the BCWID board of directors and has been instrumental in implementing projects through the district over his four decades of service.
