Loud explosions or “booms” were heard Sunday evening across the county as the Texas Army National Guard trained at Camp Bowie.

Lt. Col. Jamey Creek of the Texas Army National Guard explained in an email that the noise was from the demolition range being used as a Route Clearance Company was completing their pre-mobilization training at Camp Bowie.

“They have conducted all individual and crew served weapons certification,” said Creek. “One of their final tasks is demolition training, which will be used in country to dispose of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).”

The series of loud explosions were heard across Brown County starting around 5:20 PM on Sunday.

Camp Bowie is one of four major Texas Army National Guard training centers, a part of the state’s Training Center Garrison Command, Camp Bowie employs 32 full-time federal and state employees and is responsible for ensuring mobilization and unit-training requirements are met year-round for the more than 25,000 men and women that make up the Texas Military Forces.
