The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a winter weather advisory for mainly freezing rain and sleet, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a winter storm that could bring freezing rain, sleet and snow to the region overnight and continuing intermittently through Sunday. The areas expected to receive the most impact include the I-20 corridor and points north, but counties as far south as McCulloch could be affected.

TxDOT has prepared equipment and deicing materials, and crews will be treating and monitoring roadways around the clock as necessary.

Drivers are urged to check road conditions before deciding to drive tonight or tomorrow and to delay travel plans if possible.

Ice accumulations from freezing rain will be between one and two tenths of an inch. Glaze from sleet will be less than one half inch. Snow accumulations around one inch are expected along the interstate 20 corridor.

The forecast high temperature for Sunday is 36 with a low of 27.
