McBrideOpalFuneral services for Opal Adeline McBride will be held at 2 pm on Monday February 3, at the Abundant Life Church with Chaplain Dave Fair and Pastor Kenneth Barr officiating.  Interment will follow in Cowboy Cemetery under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home and Cremations. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, February 2, at the funeral home.

With loved ones at her side, Opal passed peacefully to be with the Angels on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at her home in Brownwood.

Opal Adeline Bennett McBride was born October 4, 1920 in McCulloch County, Texas to Elijah Vess and Missouri Ludie (Powell) Bennett. She was a 1938 graduate of Rochelle High School and on December 8, 1940 she married Ira Thomas McBride in Llano, Texas.

Opal spent much of her professional life in the beauty and fashion industry. From 1954 to 1984 she was the owner of several beauty salons in Brownwood including, Magic Mirror Coiffures and Opal’s Beauty Shoppe, along with a clothing store Opal’s Spinnin’ Wheel. Opal had also worked as local Realtor for many years.

She was a member of the Welcome W. Chandler Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and is part of the Texas First Families.

Opal is survived by her son Kenneth Don McBride; her daughter Karen Fair and husband Dave all of Brownwood; daughter-in-law Ann Jones McBride of Plano. Five grandchildren Kimberly Johnson and husband Phillip of Corinth; Thomas Ryan McBride and wife Suzette of Sache; Shanna Jacobson and husband Craig of Brownwood; LaCindi Fair of Brownwood; Felicity Sale of Dallas.  And seven great-grandchildren Chelsie Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Brady McBride, Meagan Jacobson, Courtney Jacobson, , Emily Sale, Mary Elizabeth “Lily” Sale. She is also survived by her beloved pet “Bitsy”.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ira Thomas McBride; parents Vess and Ludie Bennett; son Larry McBride; and brother, Herman Bennett.

The family ask that if desired, donations be made to the Cowboy Cemetery, PO Box 552, Brownwood, TX 76804
