ProgramArtwork2013Organizers are getting set to host the 16th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit February 1-15, 2014, and artists need to prepare for the call for entries next week at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

This year’s juror will be Benito Huerta, who has a B.F.A. from the University of Houston, and a M.A. from New Mexico State University.  He was a co-founder and Executive Director and Emeritus Board Director of Art Lies, a Texas Art Journal.

Huerta’s work was featured in a one-person exhibition at William Campbell Contemporary Art in Fort Work this past September.  His work was also the focus of a 20-year survey exhibition, entitled Intermission, at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in 2011.  Other recent one-person exhibitions, Spirits to Watch Over Me, 2012, at Avis Frank Gallery in Houston; Meaning of Sight, 2010, at the Ellen Noel Art Museum in Odessa:  Shock & Awe, 2009, at the University of San Antonio, and a 13-year survey exhibition, Sounds:  Benito Huerta 1992-2005, 2005-2007, at the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, and the El Paso Museum of Art.

The exhibit itself will open to the public February 1st through 15th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood beginning with the opening reception on February 1st.

The Salon des Refusés will open once again to artists to display their works that do not make the 2014 Stars of Texas Exhibit and will be held at the Art Center which is located at 215 Fisk Avenue.  The Salon des Refusés will be open from February 2nd through 14th.
