Brownwood ISD officials report that Woodland Heights Elementary experienced a brief lockdown Thursday afternoon as police investigated a suspicious person in the area.

The initial report came into police around 2:45 PM that a man came out of a house near the school and was walking down the street with a rifle.  The school was put on lockdown as a precaution until police could assess the situation.

Multiple police units quickly arrived in the area looking for the subject.  Police made contact with the man in another nearby home and confirmed that he had been carrying an air-rifle and not a firearm.

Police contacted the school of the situation around 3 PM to lift the lockdown.
