Employees and managers of Brownwood Regional Medical Center donated three trailers full of bicycles to the Brown County Toys for Kids program Thursday afternoon.

During a two week period, BRMC employees and managers held a toy drive and raised $5,244.12 which enabled them to purchase 66 bicycles of all sizes. This donation is about what the group raised during their annual drive last year according to Director of Practice Management Tammy Means.

Toys For Kids Founder Wanda Martin expressed her appreciation to BRMC for their generous donations.

“Thank you for your donation.  You have inspired others,” said Martin.  She explained that usually the program receives about 12 bicycles each year and that because of the news of BRMC’s donation, others donated 12 during another toy drive held yesterday.

Toys for Kids is a local program that helps make it possible for some area kids to receive Christmas gifts who otherwise would not get any toys. Toy distribution day is scheduled for Saturday December 21st and will begin around 8:00 a.m. and last through 5:00 p.m.  Each child receives approximately three toys (depending on donations received) through the program so the number of toys needed is huge.  Approximately 1600 kids were registered as of Wednesday and 400 of these have asked for bicycles according to Toys for Kids officials.

Toys for Kids’ distribution day is scheduled for Saturday, December 21st.

To make a donation directly to Toys for Kids, for more information, or to volunteer, call Toys for Kids at 325-646-6822.
