TxDOT invites the public to join their Christmas and New Year’s Holiday Sober Ride Sleigh Tour on December 3rd as it stops at Brownwood City Hall on Tuesday, December 3rd from 9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. This holiday season, TxDOT is asking Texans to literally get on board with a message that can save lives.

People in 15 cities across the state will be invited to climb inside the Sober Ride Sleigh, a donated limousine decked out in holiday colors and sporting a giant bow on the roof. The sleigh will make stops at shopping malls and holiday-related events, where people can pledge to arrange for and accept sober rides during the holidays. The Brownwood District of TxDOT has been selected for one of the stops.  The tour will stop in several locations in Brownwood and will feature local VIPs riding along in support.

Pledges posted on Twitter or SoberRides.org will be entered to win a grand prize — a trip to New York City to celebrate New Year’s Eve. There is also the opportunity to win a limo ride on New Year’s Eve in any Texas community.

The campaign is managed by Enviromedia and is provided to encourage Texans to plan for a sober ride during Christmas and New Year’s Holiday season. It will run from December 2nd through New Year’s Day and will make stops in Brownwood and Early on Tuesday, December 3rd.

During last year’s holiday season, 776 DWI-alcohol traffic crashes occurred in Texas, causing 78 fatalities. The number of fatalities increased by 21.8 percent from the previous year.
