It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays, with Christmas decorations and the building of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce’s synthetic ice skating rink which will be ready this Friday for visitors.

Last week, decorations began showing up in the depot complex as City of Brownwood employees installed the Christmas Tree and other lighted displays in front of the Lehnis Railroad Museum and at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

This week, Chamber employees and volunteers are hard at work building the foundation and putting together panels to form the beloved ice skating rink which became a favorite during its first appearance at the Christmas Under the Stars Festival last year.

The rink will be much larger this year, having a skating surface of approximately 1200 square feet.  It will be open to the public starting Friday, November 29th and available through Saturday, December 7th during the 5th annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival.

The public is invited to skate on the synthetic ice rink which is located in the parking lot of the Depot Complex at 600 E. Depot Street.

The rink will be open to the public during the following hours:

Friday, November 29th – 1 PM – 8 PM
Saturday, November 30th  – 11 AM – 9 PM
Sunday, December 1st  – 2 PM – 6 PM
Mon-Fri. December 2nd – 6th  –  1 PM – 8 PM
Saturday, December 7th  – 11 AM – 8 PM

Cost to skate is $2 per person for a 20 minute session and ice skates are available at no additional cost.

The opening of the ice skating rink will begin a week full of local Christmas activities including the lighted Christmas parade set for Thursday, December 5th at 6:30 PM in Downtown Brownwood.    The 5th annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th from 4-8 PM each day at the Depot Complex, Adams Street Community Center, and the Lehnis Railroad Museum.   The festival will feature kids games and activities, a rock climbing wall, food, competitions, and loads of family fun.

Go to BrownwoodChamber.org for additional information about the festival.

The festival is sponsored by KTAB-TV, TexasBank, Lee Hoffpauir Chevrolet Buick, Walmart, Guardian EMS, AT&T and Brownwood Women’s Clinic.

Pictured above and below are Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce employees Sunni Modawell & Ray Tipton, volunteer Don Bostic (Executive Vice President Ranger College), volunteer Adam Tipton, and volunteer Kim Peterson (Lehnis Railroad Museum director).  Also below are photos of City employees installing the Christmas decorations around the depot plaza and the lighted decorations at the railroad museum.
