BrownCoBand1On Saturday, November 9th, veterans will be honored with a special Veterans Day Parade in downtown Brownwood, and local high school musicians will be performing together in the parade.  These high school bands came together at Early High School Tuesday night to rehearse.

Last year the Brownwood High School and Early High School bands combined to march in the parade.  This year will be even more special as students from four schools across Brown County, including Brownwood, Early, Bangs and May will perform as one “Brown County Band.”

The band will be composed of approximately 200 members.

Brownwood High School Band Director David Lambert stated that the group has worked well together and has had a great time preparing.

“It was extremely fun.  The kids played well and had a good time,” said Lambert.  “It’s a neat thing and hopefully teaches the kids camaraderie getting together with people you don’t know and playing your band instrument.”

Lambert stated that the band practiced the song they will play in the parade, “This is My Country,” and marched around the EHS track Tuesday night.  After practice he said the combined bands played “The Hey Song,” just for fun.  Band booster clubs from all of the schools had cookies and drinks for the students after the practice.  Drum lines from each school also came together and played cadences during the snack break after practice.

The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday and will start at the Brownwood Coliseum traveling through downtown to the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

The observance of Veterans Day is set to honor all Veterans and thank them for their service to the United States.

After the parade, the Post and its Auxiliaries will serve brisket sandwiches in the Depot area. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to show support to all veterans.
