BPDpatchSmallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of October along with year-to-date numbers for 2012 and 2013.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley said that there were 124 reported crimes in October which is increased from the previous month.  Of these crimes, 33.9% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Of note, larceny theft increased by 15 incidents as compared to the month of September.  Reports of burglary of a habitation were also increased by 8 incidents in September as compared to the previous month.

There were 38 traffic accidents for October, which included 4 DWI (driving while intoxicated) cases.

Year-to-date, 2013 appears to be continuing a decreasing trend of total crimes than the number reported in 2012.  Of those crimes 38.9% were cleared as compared to 28.3% for the same timeframe during the previous year.  Of note, larceny theft was down by 93 cases, or 14.4%, as compared to the same timeframe during 2012.

See below for the October 2013 and September 2013 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2013 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
