3MZombie5KOne of central Texas’ first zombie runs is coming to Riverside Park in Brownwood at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 26th, benefiting the Brown County United Way.

Organizers from 3M Brownwood invite the public to be a part of the adventure, anyone and everyone can participate.  The Zombie 5K Getaway is a 5K fun run in which human runners are trying to “survive” the zombies chasing after them.  Zombie runners will be released 3 minutes after the human runners start.

In addition to the zombie runners, there will be zones in which zombie roamers (who are slower) will provide interference for the zombie runners, and may even pick up a few human lives as well, say organizers.

The race will be timed by Race Day Event Services.  Participation is open to males and females of all ages.  Runners may choose to be a human or zombie runner or a zombie roamer in the zombie classification.

Human Runner – Trying to avoid the zombies, gets a 3 minute head start over the zombie runners, and gets to dodge the zombie roamers.  Human runners will wear a survival belt with 3 flags on it.

Zombie Runner – Chases the human runners the entire course, after a 3 minute head start of the human runners.

Zombie Roamer – Does not run the course, but hangs out in a “Zombie Zone” where runners will run through.  These roamers provide interference and also try to grab flags from the humans.  Roamers do that, roam (walk not run).

Age groups for Human and Zombie Runners will be divided into age groups 0-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70, and 70+.

Costumes are encouraged but no weapons, drugs or alcohol allowed.  Please no inappropriate attire.  Organizers reserve the right to remove runners from the race to maintain the safety of the runner and other participants.

Packet pickup will be at 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Park on Saturday, October 26th.  Click here to check the Zombie 5K Getaway website for latest race day updates.
