allsaints2013Brownwood Lions will go up against the Wylie Bulldogs Friday night with regained confidence after the win against Snyder last week according to head football coach Chuck Howard.

“It was a huge win for the Lions.  We need to build on that game with the same effort and intensity we played with in the second half this week against Wylie,” said Howard.

Wylie will be, as they always are, a very competitive team to play according to Howard.

“Wylie always has a good team.  They are well coached and disciplined,” he stated.

Howard explained defensively what it will take to contain and stop Wylie.

“Wylie is multiple on offense in terms of formations, shift and motions.  The first thing we need to do is get lined up correctly and make the necessary adjustments to their shifts and motions,” explained Howard.  “Secondly, we need to match the emotion we played with in the second half of the Snyder game.  Finally we need to tackle much better.”

After coming off of a huge 423 yard passing game against Snyder, Howard said he expects this game against Wylie to have more running plays, and the game itself sometimes decides which plays the team will put into motion.

“Some of that is dictated by the game.  That being said, we definitely need to establish a running game,” said Howard.  “Any time a team is one dimensional, it will eventually catch up to you.”

Howard and his coaching staff are excited after seeing the Lions play with all their heart last week and are looking forward to the same effort being put forth this week.

“Our kids have worked extremely hard.  We have always had great confidence in our kids,” said Howard.  “I think our kids found some confidence in themselves last Friday but we will have to build on that this week.”

Most of the players are in good shape and the team should be ready for the challenge.  According to Howard, Ryan Lewis and Ceth Hardy will be out this week and possibly Matt Lewis.

The crowd can also be another positive component for any football team, and Brownwood Lions fans were a big help last week. Howard stated how it affected the team.

“I think it had a tremendous effect. You could feel the energy on the field,” explained Howard.

All Lions fans are encouraged to make the short trip to Abilene Wylie and support the Lions Friday night with kickoff set for 7:30 PM.
