Rising Star Volunteer Fire Department hosted their annual Dove Fest at the Rising Star Market Building on Saturday, September 7th with Brisket tacos, gun raffles, a visit from Texas Snake Man Jackie Bibby, and a dance with a Justin Trevino concert.  Those who attended were reported to have had a very entertaining and tasty evening.

The gun raffle offered three different firearms, and an additional two “mystery guns” were put up for auction, gathering some competitive bidding.  Bibby helped conduct the auction along with Josh Constancio, keeping the crowd entertained during the auction.  Bibby displayed his python, which thrilled some, terrified others, but as always, put on a good show.

The organization “Star Pride” had donated baked goods which were auctioned off.  Barbara Medley’s Italian Cream Cake sold for the highest bid of $65.

After the business of the drawing and auctions, the entertainment continued, first with “Elvis” dressed in a powder blue jumpsuit.    Elvis worked the crowd as if he were in Vegas, pulling (sometimes unwilling) people from the audience to be part of his act.  Several ladies were given scarves as mementos of his “visit” to their table.  He made sure he covered the entire room so that all in attendance felt included, putting on a great show, according to attendees.

The featured performer was Justin Trevino who sang some oldies, a lot of familiar tunes, and some of his new recordings.  There was a good mix of fast and slower tunes so those dancing had time to catch their breath.

Many in the crowd commented on the great time they had, in spite of the heat.  According to organizers, everyone is looking forward to the event again next year.  Pictured above is Bibby (left) with his python and other attendees.  Below are more photos of the event.  Photos contributed by Laura Quinn.
