September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and one group is working to raise awareness about childhood cancer through local activities.

Hope from the Heart Brown County is a local children’s charity that is organized to serve as a resource and network for families battling cancer in Brown County.

The group is spearheading their “Gold Rush” campaign during the month to help raise money for childhood cancer patients and to spread awareness about childhood cancer research at events all month long.

The “Gold Rush” campaign kicked off Friday at the Brownwood Lions season opener game at Gordon Wood Stadium where players wore gold to honor these children.  Several local childhood cancer warriors were also recognized at the start of the game including Cade Perkins, Macy Smith, Carlee Richardson, Abby Hubbard and Cade Boyle.

Gold balloons were released during the recognition ceremony in memory of Cade Boyle who passed away earlier this year after a long, hard battle with cancer.

Local schools are being challenged to host football games honoring childhood cancer patients and survivors.  During these games, fundraisers to help support childhood cancer research will also be held.  For more information on hosting a “Gold Rush” game, click here.
