Brownwood High School Cross Country teams competed at the Saturday Night Lights meet in San Angelo on Saturday, August 24th.  The Lady Lions varsity team earned 2nd place, while the Lions secured 4th.

Three Lady Lions placed in the top ten and took home a medal including Tori Burkett, Victoria Hood and Jessica Romero.

“I was very pleased with the effort and the times from Saturday.   I thought the girls’ team ran tough.   We were missing one of our top five, so we needed to see what the others could do to cover for her – I thought they performed well,” said Hood.   “Our times were as good or better than last season at this race – that’s a good indicator that we had a good summer of training.”

Hood said that the boys also improved over last year’s meet with five running the two mile run in under 12 minutes including Dylan Person, Austin Snyder, Jarrod Arredondo, Adam Tipton and Hugo Yebra.

“The boys were much better at this meet than last year.  I am anxious to see how this year turns out for them.   Every boy was faster than this time last year, some by as much as 2 minutes,” Hood said.   “We have some seniors that graduated and will be hard to replace, but I feel like the guys on this year’s team are really trying to rise to the challenge.”

The Lions’ JV Cross Country team placed 5th in their run, and the Lady Lions JV placed 5th as well.

The Brownwood Cross Country teams will travel to Burleson this Friday for the Burleson Elk Run.
