Brownwood Lions Football marble falls

The Brownwood Lions hosted class 4A Marble Falls Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium in the second of two preseason scrimmages as they get set for the start of the season next week.

The Lions scored two touchdowns in the controlled scrimmage to Marble Falls’ three.  Brownwood was also shut out 17-0 in the two live quarters.

Although the Lions made some apparent mistakes, head coach Chuck Howard said that the team can learn from those moving forward to the regular season.

“What we have got to do is look at the film tomorrow and learn from our mistakes,” Howard said. “We lost a little momentum on offense; we were third and short a couple of times.  We’ve got to convert those.   We are going to take the film and we are going to learn from it.”

Coach Howard saw some bright spots on offense as the Lions were able to make some plays and move the ball down the field.

“When we take the ball on the field every possession in the scrimmage, we moved the ball on them,” Howard said.  “We’ve got to be able to do that on a constant basis.”

Coach said that some of the mistakes come from inexperience on the team, but they are things that will improve as the season progresses.

“We are going to grow up every game,” Howard said “We need to get better at what we do.  We have a little inexperience in the back end.”

The Lions will open the 2013 football season next Friday at 7:30 PM at Gordon Wood Stadium as they host Fort Worth All Saints.
