The Salvation Army Service Center in Brownwood is getting set to distribute school supplies to local students in need next week and a donation given Friday will help make the program even more successful.

Vulcan Materials donated a $1000 Staples gift card Friday to benefit the school supplies program.

Salvation Army Service Center Director Donna Harris said that the community has given so much to the school supply program this year and area residents and business leaders have helped to make sure the program is successful.

“It’s something that not anyone could do by themselves,” said Harris.  “It takes an army.”

School supplies will start being distributed next week at the Salvation Army Service Center located at 403 Lakeway Drive in Brownwood.    Those who have preregistered for the program can pick up the supplies August 19-23 from 2–6 PM.

Those who have not preregistered for the program can pick up school supplies on Saturday, August 24th and must have ID for the guardian and student.

Harris said that about 600 students have registered for this program.

The Salvation Army is also still seeking donations which can be dropped off at the Salvation Army, Staples, KPSM Radio, and at the “Fill the Truck” display at Heartland Mall (in partnership with Bruner Auto Group).

This is the third year in a row that Vulcan Materials has made a donation to the program.

For more information about the program call 325-646-5369.
