WashDerekA maid was sexually assaulted at an Early motel on Sunday morning according to Early Police Chief David Mercer with a suspect in custody.

Early Police officers were called to a local motel in the 200 block of Early Blvd. at approximately 10:00 a.m. Sunday for a reported sexual assault that had just occurred.  They were assisted by Department of Public Safety troopers in the investigation.

Mercer stated that officers made contact with the victim who stated she was going into a room to begin cleaning when she was attacked from behind while in the room by a black male.  The male shut the door and repeatedly sexually assaulted the victim, said Mercer.  When the male left the room the victim notified her employer at the front desk who called the police.

According to the Mercer, the suspect was located in the motel and a positive identification was made, resulting in the arrest of the suspect 38-year-old Derek Laron Wash.  Wash was charged with sexual assault.    Mercer stated that Wash had recently moved to Brownwood from Mississippi.

Considerable evidence was taken from the scene which will be submitted for DNA testing to complete the investigation stated Mercer.

Wash is currently being held in the Brown County Jail.  No bond had been set as of Monday morning.
