BPDpatchSmallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of July along with year-to-date numbers for 2012 and 2013.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley said that there were 108 reported crimes in July which is decreased from the previous month.  Of these crimes, 43.5% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Of note, reports of assaults were down by 18 incidents as compared to the month of June; however, larceny theft was up 15 incidents in July as compared to the previous month.

Traffic accidents for July were decreased by 1 case when compared to the month of June.  There were 5 more incidents of driving while intoxicated this month than in the previous month.

Year-to-date, 2013 appears to be continuing a decreasing trend of total crimes than the number reported in 2012.  Of those crimes 41% were cleared as compared to 27.4% for the same timeframe during the previous year.  Of note, larceny theft was down by 67 cases, or 19.9%, as compared to the same timeframe during 2012.

See below for the June 2013 and July 2013 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2013 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
