After many Brownwood firefighters shaved their heads in a fundraising effort to support fellow BFD fireman Jake Landess, Chief Del Albright joined in and did a little fundraising himself and was shaved at the end of the Brownwood City Council meeting on Monday.

Chief Albright stated that he wasn’t present when the firefighters shaved their heads on Saturday, June 22nd or early Monday morning on June 24th and had received quite a bit of “ribbing” since then to shave his head so he decided to make it interesting with a challenge.

Albright agreed to shave his head if he could raise $500, which was quickly met by City of Brownwood Finance Director Walter Middleton who teamed up with City Attorney Pat Chesser to add $250 each to donations if Albright reached the $500 goal.

Donations came in from Winchell Volunteer Fire Department, Guardian EMS, Heart of Texas EMS, Blanket Volunteer Fire Department, Anytime Fitness, Brownwood Chief of Police Mike Corley and more, raising nearly $1700 according to Albright who thanked the above donors for their support after his shave.

Albright stated that it had been fun raising the money for Landess; however, he wished his wife Lisa (who is a cardiac nurse at Abilene Regional Medical Center) could have been present to enjoy the fun.  He stated that she was on board for his new look stating, “Go ahead, it’s a good cause.”

As local barber Roland Finch prepared for the shaving, Chief Albright stated that he was “a little nervous” and that the last time he had his head shaved clean was in 1978.  He also spoke of the fundraising effort and thanked everyone who has supported Landess.

Pictured above are Pat Chesser, Roland Finch, Chief Albright, and Walter Middleton posing and having a laugh after the shave. Below are photos of Chief Albright getting his shave and members of the audience watching.

Brent Bruton of the Brownwood Professional Firefighters Association reminded those in attendance of another fundraiser for Landess which will be held this Saturday, a Homerun Derby along with a softball game, Brownwood Fire Department versus the Brownwood Police Department.  The Homerun Derby will kick off at 7 pm this Saturday, followed by the softball game, then finish up with the adult portion of the Homerun Derby after the game’s conclusion.
