Violet Pulliam Wells

wellsViolet Pulliam Wells was born Aug. 5, 1921, to Augusta Evens Pulliam and Anna Viola Guyer Pulliam in Bangs, Texas. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2013, after an extended illness.

She is preceded in death by her husband, L.D. (Lee Dell) Wells, in 1975; son, W. Ray Wells in 2001; and an infant son, Carl Dean Wells in 1941. She is also preceded in death three grandchildren, Kathy Smith, Danny O’Bryan, and Sterling Peters.

Mrs. Wells graduated from Brookesmith High School in 1938. She was a rancher who loved her cows and was a local business woman for many years. She was a supporter of the 4-H program, and also longtime member and officer of the Brown County Fair Association where she served as treasurer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brownwood since 1945.

She is survived by her daughters, Neva Wells Moten and E.H. Shemwell of Copperas Cove, Texas, Carrol Wells Peters of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Kay Wells Davis and husband Preston L. of Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Wells is survived by her grandchildren, Joel O”Bryan and Terri Potts of Denver, Colo., Laura Peters Prosek and Darryl of Corpus Christi, Texas, Graydon Peters and Kate of Humble, Texas, and Clint Davis of Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Wells leaves behind four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood is in charge of funeral arrangements. There will be a viewing and visitation from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. A family burial service will be held at 2 p.m. in at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bangs.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the charity of your choice or Brown County Fair Association, P.O. Box 1101, Brownwood, Texas, 76804, or Texas 4H Conference Center, 5600 FM 3021, Brownwood, Texas, 76801.
