SydneyRobertsWTJCT2013Sydney Roberts of Brownwood competed in the WTJCT (West Texas Junior Championship tour) West Texas Open in Abilene this week and took home the championship title.

Roberts competed in the 15-18 girls age group in the tour, and during the school year is a member of the Brownwood High School Lady Lions golf team.  She played Abilene Country Club Monday, shooting a 73 which is her lowest round to date.

At the end of the first round, Roberts was in the lead by 1 stroke ahead of Katy Goen of Wichita Falls.  The second round was to be played Tuesday at Fairway Oaks Country Club, but due to severe storms in Abilene Monday night, the second round was cancelled.  Fairway Oaks course was heavily damaged by down trees and limbs.

The third round took place on Wednesday at Diamondback Golf Course.  Roberts went into the day with a one stroke lead and shot an 82.  She secured the championship by staying 4 strokes ahead of the second place finisher, Katy Goen.   Roberts’ scores for the tournament were 73-82-155.

Another local athlete, Jake Angerstein of Early placed 3rd, shooting a 169 in the 12-13 boys age bracket.
