Early Police Sergeant Steven Means was presented with the Medal of Valor at the Texas State Capitol by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Thursday.

Sgt. Means was one of eight officers across Texas who were selected to receive the Medal of Valor.  Twenty officers are selected for awards by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement in the areas of Professional Achievement, Public Service and Valor.

The ceremony was conducted in the auditorium of the State Capitol with Chief Kim Vickers of the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement and Commissioner James Oakley presenting the awards.

The award was presented following the shooting at the Peach House trailer park on Highway 183 in July 2012 where Sgt Means was confronted by an individual who had shot 2 people and was preparing to fire upon Sgt Means. Sgt Means returned fire and stopped any other threat from the individual.

Pictured is Means (right) receiving the award of Oakley on Thursday.
