ChelseaJohnstonSigning2013

Early High School celebrated Lady Longhorn track and cross country athlete Chelsea Johnston as she committed to Ranger College.  A mock signing was held on Thursday, May 30th at EHS in her honor.

Family, coaches and staff members at EHS gathered in the conference room to celebrate Johnston’s signing and next chapter in her cross country career.

Johnston recently visited the campus of Ranger for the first time and decided that day to sign a commitment to join their cross country team.  She will receive a scholarship and states she plans to pursue a major of biology in order to become a radiologist eventually.

Head Cross Country Coach Kristi Sandoval stated that Johnston has been a big part of the EHS Lady Longhorns during her high school career.

“Chelsea is going to be a huge loss to us, having made it to regionals all four years,” said Coach Kristi Sandoval.  “She is an amazing athlete, a hard worker, with a great attitude.  She is also a positive role model on and off the field.

Johnston stated that the decision was quick but a good one for her as she has lived in Ranger before and really liked the town and liked what she saw at Ranger College.

“I met the coach at a track meet and knew Ranger was an open option for me,” said Johnston.  “I got to tour last week and decided to sign that day.”

Johnston stated that she plans to get her basic courses at Ranger and then plans to transfer to either Tarleton State University or the University of Texas at Arlington.  She hopes she will be able to continue running in one of these larger programs but if not, she states she will completely focus on her studies to enter the field of radiology.

As for her time at EHS, Johnston stated that the team experience with the Lady Longhorns has been the most important part, learning the dynamics of team bonding and being a team player.
