Brownwood City Council recognized May 5-11, 2013 as “Drinking Water Week” in the city of Brownwood at their meeting on April 23rd.

A proclamation was issued regarding Drinking Water Week, which was presented by Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes to David Harris, City of Brownwood Assistant Division Director of Public Works which stated that water is our most valuable natural resource.

The proclamation outlined that “only tap water delivers public health protection, fire protection, support for our economy and the quality of life we enjoy.”

Citizens were called by the proclamation to help protect our source waters from pollution, to practice water conservation and to get involved in local water issues.  Mayor Haynes also urged all citizens to be good stewards of the water infrastructure upon which future generations depend.

Currently Brownwood and the surrounding communities are in a serious drought.  Brown County Water Improvement District and water supply companies/entities have implemented level three restrictions of the Drought Contingency Plan.  To view these restrictions, please click here.

Due to the low levels of Lake Brownwood, the area’s primary source of water, the City of Brownwood has been looking into a water reuse plant to recycle the water that citizens use.  For information regarding the reuse plant, please view the following related stories.
