Davis0001Funeral Services for Allene C. Davis, 82, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood with Wayne Davis, Rodney Watson and John Tunnell officiating.  Interment will follow at the Bangs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Saturday at the Heartland Funeral Home.    She passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 in Brownwood.

Mrs. Davis was born February 5, 1931 in Brown County to Bonnie and Harvey Chastain.  She grew up in the community of Grosvenor and graduated from Bangs High School in 1948 as Valedictorian of her class.

On August 11, 1951, Allene married her high school sweetheart, Morris W. Davis, at Calvary Baptist Church.  After several moves, they made their home in Memphis, Texas for 37 years.  Mrs. Davis was a Christian Lady who loved her Lord.  While in Memphis, she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, G. A. leader, and on various committees.  Since returning to Brownwood in 2002, Mrs. Davis faithfully served at Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Davis invested her life in her family, both as a homemaker and as bookkeeper for her husband’s company Davis Irrigation, for many years.  She is most remembered for her gift of hospitality.  She loved hosting Christmas parties, having guests in her home for meals and ministering to others with gifts of food.  She especially loved having all of her family home and cooking for her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Douglas Flynn and Claude Carmichael.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Morris Davis of Brownwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Nancy Davis of Fort Worth; one daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Rodney Watson of Abilene.  She was “Granna” to five grandchildren, Trey and Emily Davis of Crowley, Emily Davis of Fort Worth, Ryan and Cassidy Watson of Plano, Kyle and Jessica Watson of Abilene, and Tyler Watson of Abilene; and two great-grandchildren, Haddon and Brooke Davis of Crowley.

Pallbearers will be her four grandsons and two nephews, C.E. Carmichael and Jimmy Carmichael.  Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Calvary Baptsit Church.

Memorial gifts may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Friends are invited to sign the guestbook at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.

Heartland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
