Three local nursing and retirement homes hosted a “Rock-A-Thon” to benefit the Relay for Life of Brown County on Wednesday.

Residents gathered at the Chatfield Assisted Living from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to enjoy a fundraiser, hamburgers, games and good fellowship with friends.

Donations of $5 were given for 15 minutes of rocking.  There were 30 residents from the Chatfield, 10 residents of Oakridge Manor and 14 residents from Care Nursing and Rehabilitation participating in the event.  Family and friends of residents also came to show support.  Pictured above are Rhonda Stone and her mother, 92-year-old Robbie Waller, as they took their turns in the rocking chairs.

The hamburgers were provided by Guardian EMS and music was provided by James Carruth.

Care Nursing and Rehab Admissions Coordinator Jodie Armstrong stated that the event was a success and served as a great outing and gathering for the residents.

“It’s been pretty neat, a lot of the residents from the three facilities know each other, some are even cousins,” said Armstrong. “They just had a little reunion and supported a great cause.”

This year’s Relay for Life of Brown County is themed “7-7-7 Don’t Gamble with Cancer.” The relay is set for June 7 from 7pm-7am at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood.
