Joy Johnston

A graveside funeral service for Joy Johnston, age 78, of Brownwood, formerly of DeLeon, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the Zion Hill Cemetery in Comanche County under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Mrs. Johnston died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Joy Westfall Johnson was born on May 14, 1934 in Comanche to Lonnie and Mary (Holmes) Westfall.  She was raised in the Hasse community and attended Comanche schools, graduating from Comanche High School in 1950.  Joy was a licensed vocational nurse for many years.  She had been a resident of DeLeon for fifty years before moving to Brownwood in 2004.

Joy is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Golden-Sligh and husband John of Austin, Donna Boswell of Fort Bragg, NC, a son, Gaylon Johnston of Austin; three grandchildren, Kendra Putman and husband SPC. Andrew Putman of Fort Bragg, NC, Patrick Johnston of Austin, Challie Johnston of Austin; three great-granddaughters, Makenzie Boswell-Putman, Emma Jean Putman, and Madison Mae Putman all of Fort Bragg, NC; two sisters, Frankie Sherrill of Fort Worth and Jesse Downs of Alexandria, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gaylon Johnston.
