The Rising Star community hosted an open mike musical fundraiser on Saturday, April 6th in the Market Building located on Main Street.

The fundraiser was to benefit two ladies who were in need of assistance because of medical issues, Lindsey Woods and Ruth Norris.

The Master of Ceremony was Mr. Chuck Patrick and there was a good crowd according to organizers.  Many other conflicting events kept the attendance from being as large as organizers had hoped.

Those who did attend were treated to the “picking and grinning” of area guitar enthusiasts.  Some of the entertainment included May resident Sam Brown performing an original song “Wartime Love Song,” Ms. Jackie Collins playing mandolin and guitar, a duet of Collins and John Hayes, the instrumental performance of Art Crudgington and Carroll Williams, and readings by local Cowboy poet Gorman Welch.

Organizers state, “It was a truly enjoyable evening–Thanks to Jo Sledge and everyone who helped to organize the event.  We are looking forward to more events like this one.”

Organizers hope the community will continue to gather together for more events such as this in the near future.
