leapinglionBrownwood High School Athletic Director Bob Shipley announced Thursday that Jackie Lang has resigned as head volleyball coach for the Brownwood Lady Lions.

“We appreciate Coach Lang and her commitment to our athletic program. She’s a wonderful person and we wish her the best.  We have already started our search for the next head volleyball coach,” said Shipley.  “Coach Lang will finish out the year but the new coach will be involved in the summer volleyball camp and getting the girls signed up for summer activities.”

Coach Jackie Lang has been teaching for seven years, four of them at Brownwood High School teaching World Geography, World History, and Economics, according to the BISD website.  She offered a statement explaining her resignation is to spend more time with her family, but that she has enjoyed her time with the BHS girls’ volleyball and track athletes.

“I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to coach at Brownwood, especially the chance to coach such a fantastic group of young ladies in both volleyball and track.  It has been a very special 4 years,” stated Coach Lang.  “I am stepping down as head volleyball coach to spend more time with Hattie, our 8-month-old daughter.  I will finish coaching this track season – hopefully into May with some state champion runners.”

Lang graduated from Coppell High School in 2002, where she was on the volleyball team and involved in NHS and the ecology club.  She then attended Valley City State University in North Dakota where she was an outside hitter/defensive specialist for the Viking volleyball team.   Lang graduated with honors in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History Education with a concentration in Sociology.
