The Brownwood High School One-Act play version of Peter Pan earned great reviews from the audience and a panel of three judges Wednesday, March 27 at the District 8-3A OAP contest hosted by Brownwood. Lead judge Michael Harlan called the production, “…innovative, creative and unlike any production of Peter Pan,” he had ever seen.

BHS theatre director Larry Mathis indicated he was “relieved” at the outcome but not particularly surprised. “The kids have worked so hard,” said Mathis. “They put themselves in a position to win. It was just a matter of being fortunate enough to have a panel with judges who saw the vision of the show as we intended it.”

Numerous cast members received individual acting awards:

Honorable Mention All Star Cast: Jaden Cox (Hook), Trey Fawcett, Jose Hernandez, Kolton Robertson, Chandler Simental, Megan Pointer, Caitlyn Morris (Lost Boys ensemble) and Caitlin McGraw, Lauren Peterson, Sheyanne Cole, Courtney Lindsey, Brooklyn Briton (Pirate ensemble).

All Star Cast: Kimberly Boswell (Wendy)

Best Actress: Meredith Underwood (Peter Pan)

“I was stunned,” said Mathis, indicating that he had never seen two ensemble awards from the same cast.

The show will now advance to Area competition April 12th and 13th at Angelo State University. Another local public performance is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th.
