The Brownwood Country Club is moving forward with some significant renovation plans to their facility and grounds thanks to new owners Stephen and Vicky Baker.   Plans for the country club improvements were revealed Friday at the monthly Brownwood Chamber luncheon.

“This whole thing is really about my wife actually,” Stephen Baker said. “Those of you who have gotten close to us fully understand what I am talking about. My wife found this club, and it’s her vision that you see unfolding.”

Renovations for the country club facilities include an expansion of the building to add a new ballroom that can seat 350 people, an expanded kitchen, a casual dining area with an additional kitchen, a new pool facility, a new clubhouse and expanded dining capacity.

“This place is important to the community because it can bring people here,” Baker said.  “Brownwood is interestingly located out of the mainstream oil field to still be a resort sort of destination.”

Country club representatives said that they want to host more weddings and special events, and after renovations, they can accommodate events triple the capacity of the current building.   Much of the expansion and renovation will also leverage the view of the lake at the country club in many of the rooms.

“Brownwood is a wonderful place full of warm, nice people; that is something that you don’t maybe realize that is such an asset,” Baker said. “What you have to do in any line of business is to provide a surprising level of service or goods at a reasonable price.  Well, that’s what we intend to do here is surprise you on the level of service and things that we can do here in Brownwood, Texas and still keep the price at an affordable level.”

There are no plans to close any part of the country club while renovations are underway so members and guests can continue use of the club uninterrupted.

Baker said that there is currently no specific timeline for completion of the project, but the pool is currently under construction and they are installing all new kitchen equipment within the week.

Stephen Baker has worked in the oil business for 40 years and he and his wife Vicky purchased the Brownwood Country Club at the first of the year.  They are currently relocating from Midland and remodeling a house to make Brownwood their permanent home.
